The Bridge Is Finally Done! Er, Except For 3 Missing Boards
http://... lower bridge going in at the Environmental Education Center at Rincon in the Angeles National Forest in the San Gabriel Mountains is finally finished.
Actually there are three boards that are missing which we will get next week, perhaps.
This has been a lengthy project -- something like 2 years -- because we have not worked on it from start to finish. Many, many projects have taken place while this bridge has been built, and finally we decided that a push was needed to complete the project so that we don't have to worry about it any more.
The bridge is part of the nature hike that exists behind the Environmental Center which volunteers take many kids through every year.
The bridge is massively heavy with deep footing. The concrete dogbone matrix is drilled and pinned together with rebar tie points, and hundreds of thousands of pounds of boulders, rocks, gravel, sand, and dirthave been carried in by volunteers to build the bridge.
The San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders did most of the work and organized all of the effort however volunteers from several other organizations and individual volunteers have participated over the length of this project to finally complete the new bridge.
And it looks great!

"nice work here. how far up the trail is that bridge?"The whole nature trail is less than 1/5'th of a mile since it's intended for really small children bussed in from cities. The bridge is about half way. The trail itself goes through a series of micro environments; lush ferns in a meadow, pine trees near the upper bridge, oak trees along most ofthe trail nearest to the highway, poison oak and ivy near the start of the trail. It's good for kids to see something other than cars.

ROFL!! Good at hauling rocks, but not so good at basic arithmetic. At least you're consistent, though. :-)

"OK, who stole those 3 boards??!!"Is there a mathematician in the house?! Anyone who can do some addition and sums to help out the poor dumb trailbuilders who tallied it up THREE TIMES and still came out short? }:-}

"I guess trolling is harder work than I thought."On the plus side there's plenty of fresh air and mostly drinkable water.

"do you deliver?"Always! It may take 2 years to move it and another 2 years to reassemble it, though. That's included in the price.

I know your happy. Your playing music like one would play at the end of an action movie when the main bad guy is killed.

"I volunteer to be its troll."That would be so cool. You could lay out a tarp under the bridge and set up a sleeping bag and be the homeless troll under the bridge for 21 days -- just until the USFS kicks you out after the permitted time limit.
Charging money for passage might not be allowed, but you could call up to the boys and girls that walk across it and scrape the bloody Jeebus out of them. That would be fun.
