Islam 101: Muslims are from all over the world


The followers of Islam are called Muslims. Muslims are not to be confused with Arabs. Muslims may be Arabs, Turks, Persians, Indians, Pakistanis, Malaysians, Indonesians, Europeans, Africans, Americans, Chinese, or many other nationalities.An Arab could be a Muslim, a Christian, a Jew, an atheist or any other religion. The language of the Qur'an (the Holy Book of Islam) is Arabic, that is why many people tend to erroneously assume that to be a Muslim you must be an Arab. Muslims all over the world try to learn Arabic so thatthey may be able to read the Qur'an and understand its meaning in its original language. They pray in the language of the Qur'an, namely Arabic. They may do supplications or (Dua) in any other language.

While there are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world today, only 15% of that population is actually made-up of Arab Muslims.

Thanx for making that point!!! So many people believe in that misconception...but I always try to set things straight..and it's so ironic 'cause we Arabs only make a small percentage of the Muslim population!!! Great video, btw!!!

Hope you make more of these. Too many people base their opinions of Islam on misinformation (i.e. Muslim = Arab). Some basic information free of opinion is SORELY lacking in the media.

No matter what one thinks of Islam, knowledge of basic undisputed facts about the faith is vital for understanding the current social, economic and geopolitical climate of the Middle East and the world.
