Rule 1: I have to choreograph at least one eight-count of dance per day.
Rule 2: Don't worry. Just dance, choreograph, write. Have fun. Trust that something begets something.

I need to get into the habit of developing choreography when I least feel like developing choreography—when it isn't "easy" or not the right time or mood. I want to develop endurance and learn a deeper discipline when not "inspired" to choreograph and create my art.

DIRECTIONS TO MYSELF: This is your thirty-day dance choreography challenge.The most important thing, however, is to have fun. Do not stress out. Dance what comes, for however long as it comes. You're free to revise as much as you want on the day of the eight-count, but once you've crossed over into the next day you have to move on. Your starting date is tomorrow, September 3, 2008. You conclude on October 3, 2008.

"The point is very simply: to make something. It's not to make something great. It's not to accomplish a whole lot. It's not to finish an actual piece of work. It's to trust that you have plenty of fodder stored up in your mind and imagination and heart,and that with a diligent commitment to make something, more somethings will come and those in turn will arouse and beckon other somethings.

This challenge, from an acquaintance I much appreciate (former Arts Pastor of a local austin church), is brilliant. He opened this challenge up to others. If you read his post, you'll see I've taken the entry word-for-word and adapted it to apply to my art of dance and the creation of choreography.

If you would like to suggest a topic, restrictive or open-ended, for one of 30 days' dance choreography challenge, I will consider responding to it with dance choreography however I wish (30 total), and will do so according to the above-stated rules.
