This in- volved the reaching of a mutual understand- ing by the leaders of the three religious com- munities in the country; and all three groups combined in the development of an inde- pendent Albanian literature and culture. Most of these men were compelled to flee abroad; thus many of them found the opportunity for writing and having their work printed in Sofia, from which city it was smuggled back into the country. This was the experience of Besa (A Pledge of Honor) by Sami Bey Frashcrj, one of the leaders of this group. This play was first pub-
